Shaykh Muḥammad ibn Ibrāhīm Āl al-Shaykh
Imām Muḥammad ibn Ibrāhīm ibn ʿAbd al-Laṭīf Āl al-Shaykh (1311–1389 AH / 1893–1969 CE) was the Grand Mufti of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and among the foremost scholars of his age. Born in Riyadh into a scholarly family, he memorised the Qurʾān as a child and lost his sight around the age of seventeen, yet went on to become deeply grounded in the sciences of the religion.
He served as a judge, as imam and khaṭīb of the Grand Mosque in Riyadh, as head of the religious institutes and colleges, and later as head of the judiciary and Mufti of the land. When the Muslim World League was founded, he chaired its founding council. Beyond his official posts, he is remembered above all as a teacher: many of the leading scholars of the following generation — including Shaykh ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn Bāz — studied at his feet.
